Writing Award Winners Announced at Colorado Author’s League Event

Denver Colorado, (May 15, 2019) – Colorado Authors’ League (CAL) announced their writing awards, 2019 finalists. They announce the winners at the 2019 Celebration of Excellence, June 9th, from 5-8 pm, at the Sie Theater in Denver.

Professional writers have looked to CAL since the 1930s to connect with authors, share information and follow industry trends. In 2019, writers increased their investment in time and money to publish and market their work. Most writers confess an open antipathy to these roles, yet carry them out to survive. Fellow CAL member and bestselling author Todd Fahnestock delivers the keynote. He shares effective strategies he’s developed to help writers find the right audience for their work and keep those readers interested in coming back for more.

Mystery writer Rex Burns receives the CAL Lifetime Achievement Award, with author Sandra Dallas introducing Rex. Burns taught American Literature at CU while writing mysteries. Rex’s first book earned him a prestigious Edgar Award and Charles Bronson starred in a movie adaptation of another book. Rex hosted the Mystery Channel television series, Anatomy of a Mystery.

Owner of BookBar on Tennyson, Nicole Sullivan, helps local authors launch books and gives them space to hold readings. CAL will recognize Nicole with their Author’s Advocate Award this year. Nicole understands the scope of the metamorphosis occurring in the industry. Where some people see an unraveling, Nicole discovers opportunities for new partnerships.

The CAL 2019 Celebration of Excellence is open to the public. To learn more or to make a reservation, go to coloradoauthors.org.
