Evacuation Center Established for North Capitol Hill Fire

Denver, CO (March 7, 2018) – The City and County of Denver has activated an evacuation center in response to the major fire today in north Capitol Hill near 18th and Emerson. The center is now open at the St. Charles Recreation Center, 3777 N. Lafayette St, Denver, CO 80205.

Presently, the evacuation area includes the entire 1800 block of Emerson St. Residents will not currently be allowed to access any buildings in the evacuation area. This center has been established to serve individuals impacted by the evacuation area surrounding the fire scene.

If residents of the evacuation area can get to the center on their own, the center is open. If not, details regarding transportation will be announced soon. The center will be open through the night and has capacity to serve 580 people.

Individuals arriving at the center are required to check-in and complete the required paperwork. Next, a staff member will direct them to the dorm area where individuals may set up their personal belongings.
What to Bring to a center:
• Identification, essential documents, cash and flash-light
• Books, magazines, quiet toys for kids
• For infants: Enough food, supplies, diapers, blankets, bedding, and clothing
• Pets (Arrangements will be made on-site at the center to transfer pets to the Denver Animal Shelter at 1241 W. Bayaud Ave.)

What NOT to Bring to a center:
• Drugs/Alcohol
• Firearms/Weapons

Individuals with additional questions may contact 3-1-1 for assistance. If the evacuation area is expanded, notifications will be issued immediately.
